Hello Chris and all other members,

I have a question.

On a new Toshiba laptop running Vista Ultimate, I attempted to connect my Pocket PC Qtek Phone running WM 5.0 to sync my contacts and calendar with Outlook. The MS Office Suite is Small Business with Business Contacts and not Pro.

When I connect the device, the WMDC only recognizes the phone as a media device. It never proceeds with the WMDC regular interface that allows me to specify how and what I want to sync. I can sync music all day, but nothing else

Is this a limitation with the Small Business Edition of Office where it won't fully sync with WM 5.0 devices?

I have an HP desktop that syncs just fine with the phone. The differences I've notices is that on the Desktop, the phone is recognized as a Windows Mobile device under Portable Devices in the Device Manager. Where as on the laptop, it is recognized as a PocketPC under Portable Devices in the DM. I tried uninstalling the device and reloading it and for the first connection, it will list as a Windows Mobile Device, but then recognizes as a PocketPC. As for the WMDC, it always sees it only as a media device and will only allow me to interface/sync with Windows Media Player 11.

You thoughts and suggestions would be, as always, greatly appreciated.

Regards,

malotron

Hi,
Did you install Windows Mobile Device Center? This can be done by downloading it from Microsoft or using Windows Update while your device is plugged in.

Also, I do not believe that BCM is supported with WMDC.

Hey Chris,

Sure enough, WMDC was missing and the problem for the issue. I went to the MS site and downloaded WMDC onto the PC and now have the GUIs that I'm familiar with to access accordingly. I just assumed that WMDC was installed already as that was the case with my desktop when I installed Vista Ultimate there. Regardless, I'm up and running with syncronization bliss.

Thanks again for your advice and assistance, you're a big help and I only wish I ran a bank so I could hire you.

Regards,

Hi,
Thank you for the support.

BTW I am looking for technical work outside banking. There are very few banks based in Los Angeles.
