Has anyone experienced this?

I have a Sprint 6700 Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC. I've got a new PC, Vista Ultimate, Office 2007 Professional, and am using Business Contact Manager for my contacts. I'm also using Windows OneCare. I bought Companionlink Pro to synch the BCM contacts to the Pocket Outlook contacts. It worked great for awhile. Then, something changed...

Now, whenever I cradle the PPC, I get a WMDC error, WMDC Sync Host Has Stopped Working. I've gone through all the advice in this forum, set my TCP and UDP ports on the firewall per instructions, done hard resets on the PPC multiple times and can't keep it going. I can reload Companionlink after the hard reset, synch a few times, and then I get the WMDC error again. I've unloaded Companionlink's software on the PPC before I cradle it and get the same error, so I don't think it's Companionlink. I've turned off OneCare completely and it still happens. I reboot the PC each time in between tests. I've tried with User Account COntrol on and off.

All help is accepted and welcome!

Thanks,
Lon

Hi,
Are the services required to support WMDC running? The services must be running in order to connect and sync.

Thanks, Chris.

Yes, the wmdc service is running.

Here's the newest theory. In the MS ActiveSync forum, we're discussing the role that wmplayer.exe (Windows Media Player 11 under Vista) has in this process. Have you seen this work? Look at the Processes tab in Task Manager when you cradle the PPC. wmplayer starts up, then WMDC Host Sync starts, wmplayer stops, then restarts. It's this second restart that generates the error and shuts down WMDC Host Sync. One guy says that if you can kill wmplayer the second time very quickly, WMDC will continue and sync correctly. Either my fingers are too slow or my PC is faster than his, but I can't kill the process before the error is generated.

Have you seen this before? In your forum, the culprit seems to be OneCare and I've set the ports per your instructions, but it's still happening.

Thanks for your support!

Lon

Hi,
I have not seen this problem with WMP11. Have you tried removing the option to sync with WMP11 from WMDC?

Chris:

I don't synch anything for Media Player, nor any files.

Take a look at Task Manager, Processes tab, (sorted by name with the W's at the top), and see what happens when you cradle the Pocket PC.

Thanks,
Lon
