I created an excel file on my desktop pc, then using activesync I created a folder on my desktop that would sync the files within it to my ppc. That worked fine, the excel file I put in the folder transfered to my ppc, I can find the file on my ppc, but it won't let me open the file, and there is no option to "open" a file from inside pocket excel. So how do I open the file on my ppc, then save it, so that next time I sync to my desktop it'll update the file that resides on the desktop pc?

Hi,
To open the file try using File Explorer to find the Excel file and then click on it to open it. Pocket Excel will launch and open the file.

I tried that, but the file isn't showing in file explorer as an excel file. When you click on the file it pops up a message and tells you it's not associated with a program, and to open the program then open the file. But again, excel doesn't have a "open file" option. Do I have to convert the excel file on my desktop pc before transfering it to my ppc? And if so, am I still going to be able to share the file so that it'll sync when I plug the ppc to the desktop pc?

The xls file transfered to the phone as a xlsx file. On the ppc I edited the file back to xls, but it still won't open it, says it's an invalid file.

Hi,
You have Office 2007. In Office 2007 you need to save the files in Excel 2003 format. See http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/office2007/index.htm

likewise for me.

curious about this file (and hoping to extract some lost changes) i explored the file. altho mostly binary mine was full of date formatting strings... same as you would find when changing the format of a column and choose "date."

as this was something i was doing here and there during the initial construct of a spreadsheet- something about it left this remnant file. ...this bastard remnant file that cost me some lost data... :b

The "Temp0FOO" trick worked for me, thank you very much!

My first post to this board, apologies if there is an anti-necro rule in place (that I would be currently breaking!).

I could not find any Temp0FOO on my PDA.

I have not figured out why yet, but I transfered all my Excel files from the folder named "EXCEL" to folder named "Personal", I could then modify spreadsheets and save wiithout changing the file name!!! No more "an error has occured while saving (filename)" Chris, any ideas why? I use a Treos 750 running WM6. Bob Confused
