I have hp ipaq hw6500 with Windows Mobile 2003 SE. I have two questions:

1. Can it be upgraded to windows mobile 5 or 6?
2 Can I install additional unicode fonts (georgian or russian for example?)

Thanx for help

You might try finding an upgrade CD on eBay. Of course if HP never issued an official upgrade for that model, it won't be available. There may be illegal/unofficial ROM images for that model available, but these are risky, possibly disabling the device.

Any, or at least most TTF font files may be placed into the \Windows\Fonts folder and become usable after a soft reset. Of course this uses up precious memory rather quickly, especially with large fonts, so I'd suggest using FontOnStorage instead and placing all your font files in a \fonts folder in the root of your storage card. FontOnStorage may be found as freeware on the author's site:
http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Cupertino/2039/
The site is not in English, but the download link is here:
http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Cupertino/2039/FontOnStorage.zip
It's a ZIP file containing executables for various types of PPC processor. Use the ARM version, and place that EXE file into \Windows\Startup if you wish to launch the program automatically on every soft reset. Or if you only want to load extended fonts manually, then put it into your Start Meny folder somewhere for tapping at will. The program loads fonts, and also a small icon on the Today screen which when tapped offers only one option; Exit? - yes/no. Saves a lot of main memory, allowing as many TTF files to be used as you have storage space to spare on a card.

Hi,
Short answer - No. HP never offered an upgrade for the HW6500.

However you can look at the posts on www.xdadeveloper.com. Keep in mind that this is totally unsupported and may be illegal.

No, they did not offer an upgrade for that model to WM5. I doubt the flash ROM size on that device would fit for a WM5 OS installation anyway, and leave enough room for user-generated data such as Contacts or other databases. It may be possible to flash a custom ROM to your PPC, but the danger of 'bricking' it due to incompatibilities would be high.
